Children are invited to become dramatic over the March Break! Once
again, Theatre Cambrian is excited to be offering the Marchbreak
Dramafest to the young, up-and-coming stars of the community. “Each
March, Dramafest is a huge hit as students spend their March Break
singing, acting, and dancing their vacation away at Theatre Cambrian,” states
executive director, Mark Mannisto. Back again this March will be
Angel Boyle, leading the Marchbreak Dramafest team in teaching
the children the essentials of vocals. Angel is a private voice,
piano and music theory teacher at Happiness..Is Dancing and also
teaches at her own home studio. She studied voice with Monica Zerbe
and Daria Morley at Cambrian College. She has also been a soloist,
as well as a back-up singer, for the CTV Children’s Christmas
Telethon for 8 years. Angel recently studied with celebrity vocal
coach Elaine Overholt, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and his musical director
Simon Lee on the hit reality series "How Do You Solve
a Problem like Maria?" in Toronto. Joining Angel will be Kelsie Carroll,
a dedicated member of the Theatre for six years now. She has been
involved in two educational programs: Summertime Stage & Kids’ Curtain
as choreographer for both. Her eight main-stage musicals include
CATS, Grease, A Chorus Line, and Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat. She has also performed in four dinner-theatre productions,
including Not Now, Darling and Come Back to the Five
and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Credits gained outside of Theatre Cambrian are
performing with Canadian crooner Michael Buble and working media
for Sir Elton John . Theatre Cambrian's Marchbreak Dramafest will allow children the freedom to express their creative sides as they learn the fundamentals of stage acting, singing, and choreography. All the while, Theatre Cambrian's instructors put an extra emphasis on the FUN in fundamentals. On tap this session will be theme-oriented days in which all activities of the day will be designed specifically around that day’s theme. Children will be given a chance to direct scenes and act in scenes. Children will also be tested in improv games and mask work. They will learn to choose the correct monologue and audition song for musical theatre and further learn innovative and creative ways of boosting self-confidence. A portion of each day will be devoted to the children’s preparing a one-act musical performance to showcase for parents, friends, brothers, and sisters at the end of the week. “The
Marchbreak Dramafest is the perfect opportunity to have your children’s
first experience in theatre be a memorable one. Many of our participants
have gone on to performances both with
Theatre Cambrian and the Sudbury Theatre Centre,” states
Boyle, team leader of the Marchbreak Dramafest. To
